Trying to level up the tail lights on my 2015 Countryman. I'm looking for some seriously bright brake lights, but man, finding the right setup has been a bit of a struggle. Anyone out there had success upgrading their Countryman’s tail lights with LED bulbs or a different setup?

Upgrading to LED tail lights on your Countryman is definitely a great idea! I’ve had success with brands like Philips or Sylvania for bright, reliable LED bulbs. Just make sure the ones you pick are CANbus-compatible to avoid error messages on the dash. You might also need resistors or an adapter kit to prevent hyper-flashing. Once installed, the brightness and responsiveness are a huge improvement!

If you already have LED lights, swapping to new LED units is a straightforward process. Simply replace the old units with the new ones.

However, if you're upgrading from halogen lights, you'll need to rewire the plug. You can easily determine if you have halogen or LED lights by counting the wires in the plug:
  • 5 wires: Halogen, requires rewiring.
  • 6 wires: LED, no rewiring needed.
Once the physical swap is complete, use BimmerCode to update the vehicle's software and let it know about the new LED tail lights.
