I know this i snot EV but my Countryman (2012, manual, petrol) has a stop/start malfunction, and I'm stumped. It worked fine before, but now it just idles at lights. I know the AC can affect it, but that's not the culprit this time.

Swapped in a new battery yesterday, and the shop mentioned something about a "sleep mode" (weird, right?). But even after a night's rest, the stop/start's still not working. Any ideas what might be causing this?

btw I'm excited about the new countryman EV.

First thing you would do is to run diagnostics on it to know the issue. Once you know the issue, you can now start working on it.

@Bamboom, how is it now? Did you verify if it's the right battery for the start-stop system installed? This battery must be registered with MINI's computer system in order for its power to be efficiently managed. Remember that the car's system, not the battery, enters a low-power state.

First, let's check the basics. Is the stop/start system accidentally turned off? Look for a toggle switch that controls this feature.

A common reason for a non-functioning stop/start system is a weak battery. As the battery ages, its ability to provide the necessary power for the system decreases. However, there could be other factors affecting the system, which are likely outlined in your owner's manual.

If you've ruled out these possibilities, it's possible that a faulty sensor could be the culprit. Unfortunately, I can't provide more specific information without further diagnosis
